This was a very sweet story but not at all what I had expected. I thought this would be more of a RomCom novel but it is not. While the story does show us the POV of Finn and Sydney it is far more from the perspective of Finn. At the beginning of the novel the author describes him as resembling Luke from the Gilmore Girls, she even dresses him in a backward baseball cap, and his personality is also lifted from that character. He seems gruff but really has a heart of gold which is how he ends up getting mixed up with Callie, the older lady who needs help. This is a Christmas story about finding out what really matters in life. Like a lot of Christmas stories our characters need some help. Not in a Dickens sort of way. Both characters are good people but they need some perspective which will come there way. This was much shorter than I had expected. The chapters are very short so the book moves quickly. The characters may have been too good which precluded a longer misunderstanding of circumstances which could have been more fun to read. There was not much fun bantering between Sydney and Finn. There’s not a lot of comic effect here. This book is more drama. While it was not what I expected it certainly was a sweet story.

I read the sample pages before purchasing and unfortunately they were the best written pages in the book. The quality of writing just didn't carry through the rest of the story. It ended up being slow moving, predictable and kind of dry. With that said, it was a sweet story which is refreshing. I wouldn't rush to read this again.
Callie is the woman I want to grow into as I am getting older - living her life so full of faith (except I hope to keep my filter!). Sydney and Flynn are blessed by her in ways they would never imagined. You’ll laugh a lot and be warmed by this story.
I’ve read most of Terri’s books and I’m so thankful I got to read this one!
I loved this book. What do you do when you are an overworked lawyer being pressed to win or get the ax? You have a senile granny who needs a doctor. Call her a cab cause you gotta be at your case or get fired.
Finn a simple taxi driver bc becoming involved with a sweet old lady who knows she is sick and just wants to find a good man for her granddaughter. Good this sweet book and find out Miss Callies reasons
Love this timely read for me! Loving & living in the now is a goal I seek - often thwarted by not keeping my gratitude list current and in the forefront of my day...Love Finn and his journey...love all the characters journeys! Thanks Terri for the awesome pre Christmas reminder!
Catching Christmas by Terri Blackstock will catch your heart! It’s just the kind of book everyone needs to read amidst the hustle and bustle of the Holidays. Take a few moments and get lost in the lives of first year law associate Sydney Batson, former gourmet chef and restauranteur and present day cab driver Finn Parrish and Sydney’s very special Grandmother, Miss Callie.
Each of three people are experiencing very trying times in their lives and each of them feels very alone. One of them is fighting a losing battle, one is fighting things from the past and one is fighting death by making big plans for Christmas and beyond! These three characters will catch your heart and make this an unforgettable Christmas book!
Blackstock is at her best weaving a story of broken, hurting people allowing them to meet, have conflicts, experience growth in themselves and as a group. It is a story of past failures, wrong choices and most of all redemption and love. It’s always a blessed Christmas Gift to find LOVE in the most unexpected places with the most unexpected people! Treat yourself to the gift of Catching Christmas!
My book club always picks a Christmas-y book for our December discussion. And since Terri Blackstock is one of our go-to authors, we knew we had to read Catching Christmas. And while this novella is not her typical romantic suspense, Blackstock fans will not be disappointed by the sweet story of second chances. Recommended!
Sydney is an overworked first year attorney facing an impossible case. Finn is a former chef turned cab driver who lives with lots of regrets. The two are brought together by Sydney’s adorable grandmother, Callie Beecher. Callie may be ill and not always in the present, but she does know a lot about love and faith. As Sydney and Finn wrestle over Callie’s care, they learn just what is important in life.
I really liked Catching Christmas. Filled with laugh out loud scenes and poignant moments, this story is true to life — there are plenty of people in this world struggling to make sense of missed opportunities, life-changing mistakes, and the need to connect with others. Callie is the best of characters. She epitomizes the impact a person of faith can have on those around her. The action takes place in the days leading up to Christmas, and the reader can feel Callie’s urgency to beat the deadline for bringing happiness into her granddaughter’s life. Finn and Sydney are very relatable in their disconnected lives. Catching Christmas is a great reminder of what is really important. A fast-paced read, you’ll finish this book in no time, but be prepared for a bit of sorrow in leaving this wonderful story.
Recommended.
Audience adults.
I’ve always been a fan of Terri Blackstock and have read almost all her books. Sadly, I wasn’t a fan of the ‘If I Run’ series at all, so I was happy to see her newest book come out to try reading her again. ‘Catching Christmas’ was just the renewal I needed. A quick read, this story captures attention right from the start and doesn’t let go. While you get to know the characters, the story imparts great reminders of just what is and is not important about life, family, faith - perfect as we head into the holidays!
